Hello I am from the mountain state of West Virginia I will post some pictures of my girls. I lost 2 roosters and one of my hens this week and one got attacked in my front yard so no more running free Someone asked why I was so upset I said because they are family that's why

Welcome, so sorry for your lose. It's really hard to have a chicken taken by a predator, much less 3 in one week. Since 2 were roos at least you know your boys went down fighting for their hens. I hope you feel better soon. Do you have any other roos?

Thank you very much. No I don't they are all hens the younger ones none of them have tried to crow

I think I would consider getting another roo, perhaps an older one, for protection. I also think they are nice to have. But that's just me.

As long as he respects you, and his hens, the meaner the better in a rural setting. Again, just my opinion. Good luck with the new one.

Oh, I am in the city, like in the middle of a fairly large city, so I can't keep a roo. Although I did so illegally for 4 years before a neighbor ratted me out. Now I have major possum problems and I have to be the rooster. So you don't get the wrong impression, our city is almost 300 years old and lots of people have always kept chickens here. It's almost a tradition.
