Hello,

I am new to backyard chickens and I'm new to chickens, just want to say hello to everyone!

Looking forward to advice and need all the information I can get.

I just recently got 10 new chicks on 02/21/2025, 5 Rhode Island Red, 3 Black Sex Links and Tractor Supply told be the other two were Rustic Rock, but I can't seem to find any information on "Rustic Rock". I see Barred Rock, but not Rustic.

It looks like I may have two roosters in the bunch and was wondering if when they get older, can the roosters be separated from the hens, so I don't have to give them away? I don't really care to have roosters, but if I keep them, would that be the way to keep them.

My husband and I are looking forward to raising the chickens for eggs.

Thank you everyone in advance!

Welcome to BYC!

You will need to sell one. You can not keep two roosters together unless you have a all roster flock (you would need to not have any hens ever and its hard to do this) so you will need to keep your favorite. You can sell them sometimes but unfortunately you sometimes have to kill them.
My husband and I are looking forward to raising the chickens for eggs.

Thank you everyone in advance!

Hello, I'd never heard of Rustic Rocks either but a quick Bing search came up with this bit from a hatchery:
"Rustic Rocks are a dual-purpose breed with a unique charm. Known for their hardiness and adaptability, Rustic Rocks thrive in various environments while offering a steady supply of brown eggs and quality meat. With their friendly disposition and striking feather patterns, they make delightful additions to any backyard flock."
Here's the hatchery link: https://www.spikesandhoules.com/chicken-rustic-rock

Good luck with your chicks!

:wee Welcome! Glad to have you!!

Honestly, whether or not you can keep more than one rooster completely depends on the roosters' personalities. That's what I've gathered, anyway, from reading. I don't have roos but they're just as much of individuals as hens are, so nobody can tell you how to keep them and if it will work. People can give you tips of course, so never be afraid to ask questions!
