Hi everyone, starting small this time. Just 10 ladies right now. Had one loss early on , a rooster that was supposed to be a pullet. He had short legs, maybe some form of dwarfism, my girls didn't like him. they kept him off the roost and picked on him. unfortunately I think he must have had other genetic problems as well. he died before I could try to find him another home. He was very friendly , but never got to the point of crowing. The girls are 3 Easter eggers, 2 barred rocks, 2 buff Orps, 2 gold laced Wyandottes, and 1 Rhode island. They are just starting to lay in the last couple of weeks, got 5 eggs today! Live in the Illinois metro east area with Hubby and kids, 1 black lab, 1 aussie/terrier cross and 1 cat, and youngest daughters new baby corn snake. Hubby finishing wonderful coop , all from scratch. Just about to move the ladies into it from their temporary coop. :) Now I can look for some more chicks! I'd like to find some Australorp and dark brown egg layersand maybe BBS Ameraucana Hens and 1 or 2 roosters to round out the flock. You know what they say about chicken math:ya:jumpy

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So sorry about the loss of your rooster, not every bird makes it to adulthood in good order. Nice assortment of breeds you keep! Definitely add some Black Australorps to your flock if you can. They are weather and health hardy, great layers, docile and super friendly. Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!
