Hey. I've visited here frequently as a guest since getting our 5 chicks last year for a lot of DIY Coop support and chicken info etc.

Since expanding and adding another 6 chickens to our flock I figure its about time I actually create an account to contribute and what not.

Located in Dundas, Ontario Canada, We have 11 chickens; 5 ISA Browns, 3 Barred Rocks and 3 Black Sex Links. Hope to learn a lot, help as much as I can and maybe even meet some local BYC Enthusiasts!

Thanks,
BrianR32GTR

Hi, welcome to BYC!

It's nice you came out of lurker-mode and said hello

Glad to hear you are enjoying your flock. If you would like to 'meet' other members from Canada, you can find some of them here:

Nice to have you here!

Welcome to BYC, Brian. Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining.) You have some great layers. Black Sex Links are my personal favorites as they are very friendly and hardy, egg laying machines. I raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 large, brown eggs per year. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to BYC, Brian! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sounds like you have a lovely flock. I LOVE the akita in your avatar. It is an akita correct? I try and get my dog (and chicken

) breeds right! I'm glad you decided to join our flock. Feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Still lots of upgrades to do on the Coop and what not, but they love it so far. It's so much fun to watch their reactions to new perches , snacks etc!

As for the pup in my picture he's a Norwegian Elkhound. So very similar breed. He's just over a year old now and we are getting him a sister in a few more weeks just waiting for her to be ready for adoption. Between the chickens and my dog, soon to be dogs I certainly have entertainment for years to come! Best part is they get a long, I still keep a close eye on him just in case his animal instincts take over but so far so good. He loves to watch them dust bath and scratch!

Anyways thanks again everyone for the warm welcome!

Welcome, I knew it was a Norwegian Elkhound but, wondered if he has been shaved down for summer. His coat looks it. I used to show dogs many years ago and the Vin Meca Norwegians were tops in the breed. I think Pat Vincent used to show and breed them.
