Hello, there!
I am new to chickens, and just got them two weeks ago.
I have 16 chicks right now, all just over 2 weeks old. One is a New Hampshire Red (rooster), two are Barred Plymouth Rock, two are Ameraucana, one is Buff Orpington (bantam), one is Mille Fleur D'Uccle (bantam), and one is blue cochin (bantam). The remaining eight are Ameracauna or something else? They are a lavender gray with feathered feet - and except for one were extras.
I found out about BackYardChickens.com by browsing the internet. I read up for a while before starting a project, so naturally for the last 6-8 months BYC has been on my radar.
I've been working on my coop and it's not quite done yet but needs to be! We're in Texas and it is hot! Not to mention our chicks are getting adventurous - particularly the barred rocks.
My hobbies include gardening - vegetables, perennials, and butterfly hosts. I am an artist and art teacher, and enjoy spending time with my daughter and many nieces and nephews. We don't have any other pets, though we get to borrow our neighbor's dog pretty regularly. We have wonderful lizards and birds that live in our yard, and an amazing variety of bees, wasps and butterflies, and we have an amazing but less delightful community of tree rats that have adopted my garden as their neighborhood grocery store.
