Hey all, Just a quick intro to say Hi! My fiancee and I have owned chickens for about a year now. We have a little mix of six: a crabby food hogging brown cochin, a silver laced wyandotte (the Lady Boss), an impaired light brahma (was born almost completely blind, but has shown much vigilance and knows her way around. She's super friendly and also produces an egg every day), a black sumatra (our "pet" chicken - so very intelligent, I could write an entire paragraph about her charming ways AND her not so charming morning yelling), and two 16 week old barred rocks that we are integrating into the new flock.
We used to have an unproductive black polish (maybe 1-2 eggs a week), but she disappeared without a trace during a backyard free range. After a day of off and on searching, we decided to stop at dusk and send her best wishes on her voyage. It's been a few months since her departure but I still wish she had left a note or something, for closure
.
We have experienced many things that I'm sure other chicken owners have faced (predator threats, questions about chickens in extreme cold, how to keep your chicks happy and occupied, how to deal with neighbors who might not appreciate chickens, etc.) so I'm joining this forum to be able to interact with other chicken owners and get more ideas and information regarding their knowledge and experience. I look forward to joining discussion and will see you on the message boards!

Sorry about the loss of your Polish hen. I am sure she would have left a note if she could have found a pen.
