Hello - I've browsed the site for a while but am now just joining. I became a backyard chicken owner on May 1 w/ 6 baby chicks. I started with 4 Easter Eggers (incorrectly sold as Ameraucnas) and 2 Rhode Island Reds. We unfortunately lost one of the Easter Eggers the first week, so we then added 2 Barred Rocks (Plymouth Rocks) in June.

The flock is doing great. Our next challenge is that one of the Rhode Island Reds has turned out to be a rooster. He just started tentatively crowing. We can't have roosters in our neighborhood / county, so I need to find a new home for him. I live in Richmond, VA.

Any advice on how to re-home?

Put out a free add on your local Craigs List. That's where I found my rooster "Jaffar"

HI and welcome to the flock!

Sorry about your early loss, but glad to know you've added some wonderful new birds. Roosters can be a bit tricky to re-home, but Craigslist, Nextdoor, Facebook and local feed stores can definitely help out. If you want to charge a small re-homing fee it can dissuade people from picking up a rooster for the soup pot (if you're worried about that).

Best of luck, and have fun!
