Hi All!

I live in N. California. I've had chickens for 4 years now & have had absolutely no real issues with them until recently. I currently have 3 chickens - 3 different varieties but I don't know what kind as I got them from a family member who raised them from chicks.

In the last month we had a new hen house built & relocated the chickens to a smaller area of the yard to allow for some new landscaping. I'm not sure if it's stress from the move & the new hen house or if the area where they moved had mites or what but they all look terrible; they're molting to the point of having huge bare spots on their backside & under their wings, they aren't soft anymore - feathers are "crispy" looking & feeling. So I started researching online & found BYC!

I have 2 boys & the chickens are our only "pets" at the moment. We are a foster family, so we usually have a little one around the house!

I will post my concern about my chickens' health on a separate thread. Glad I found this community!

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. I hope the ER peeps can help you out, but as you say - maybe its the stress of the move, combined with moulting that has at least contributed to their symptoms.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

All the best

G’Day from down under MamaRidd17 :frow Welcome!

I hope you are able to find out what ails your chickens.

I also hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

:welcome

I hope things settle down soon for your guys in their new area. If you could post a photo or two, that might give us some clues as to what is going on.

Best wishes!
