I first got chickens in 2017. We had 4 chickens, a black Australorp, a grey colored Cochin, a black sex link, and a red sex link. They were excellent layers and very friendly but we had to re home then in 2019 when I went to England for graduate school.
Now we have 6 chickens a sapphire gem, a midnight majesty maran, a white jersey giant, a cream legbar, a black Australorp, and one that I'm not sure about the breed. They are all young and haven't started laying yet. We had two barred rock hens but a weasel got them this year.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? We love the eggs and giving people eggs. We also love the different personalities of the chickens and giving them enrichment.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Anything animal related. I have my bachelor's degree in zoology and I'm working on my masters in primate conservation.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Me and my husband lube with my mother. My husband is from South Africa and loves chickens. Most of the chickens there are mixed breeds and much more wild. Ft
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've known about byc for a few years but I finally joined do I could post a question to find out what breed one of our chick's is. Also I want to learn more about chickens
