Hi:
I live on the Central California coast and am new to this forum but not new to raising chickens. When I was little, both my parents and grandparents raised chickens commercially, then in 1972 I started with a backyard flock hatched by a friend and have had a small flock ever since. We eat the eggs but not the chickens. They are family! Currently I have four Australorps, two black stars and a buttercup. They are astronomical layers.
Because we're in the mountains and have many predators, we not only have the yard fenced and covered, but we close the hen house each night so they will be safe.
