I've frequently visited BYC over the last year. I love this site, very informative! I bought my first chicks last spring and they've done well. I've noticed that one of my hens has fecal matter dried on the feathers around her rectum. They always seem clean back there so this kinda sent a flag up to me. I also noticed loose stool in the coop this morning, dark brown and splattered. I know that their stools can be loose for many reasons. Is there anything else I should be looking for?

! Pleased you joined us! Your chicken - could be nothing, could be something. Perhaps your bird may have a minor intestinal issue - likely from eating something that didn't agree with her - also may be some type of worm. Have you wormed them? Most likely it might be the following.

The dark brown may refer to cecal poop. Here's link on that.

Thank you for posting that link about poo! I thought a chickie had the squits but it is almost definitely that cecal poo. Funny how obsessed with poop new parents AND new chicken parents get LOL.

Unfortunately the thread that you replied to has gone extremely zombie. The OP hasn't been seen since the day she posted her introduction.
