Hello everyone!
I am very excited to become more active with this group since I have been stalking it for the last month or two! I still don't know how to do everything on here, but I'll get there eventually! We have a little backyard coop with 6 little pullets.....4 barred rocks and 2 white rocks and I never expected to love them as much as I do! I have to admit that I am a bit obsessed

Anyway, I hope to learn as much as possible and get to know some of you over time!

Welcome to BYC! I remember stalking the forums for a few months before joining as well, haha. I've always found great advice here and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sounds like you are just as obsessed with chickens as the rest of us!

Good luck with your flock! Sounds like you are enjoying them. I like your avatar pic of them near the coop. And I remember stalking this website long before joining as well

My reaction exactly!! At first I couldn't believe a site about chickens had so much activity, but then I slowly realized how addicted chickens are! They are excellent pets, and also rewarding producers of fresh, delicious eggs. I couldn't believe how quickly I became attached to this hobby.

Glad to hear you love your flock. Barred rocks are a solid breed to start with. They are good layers and visually appealing for the people that will inevitably flock to your yard to see your hens. I toyed with the idea of getting them, but ultimately the local farm I buy from did not have them in stock.

But alas, here you are! Another member of a chicken forum! Hope you learn as much from us as we will do from you!

Welcome to the BYC flock, I guess no one told you how very addictive chickens are and that learning chicken math can add to that. In basic terms of chicken math, if you get a roo ( rooster) replace it with two (hens). Chicks don't count, and bantams are considered only 1/2 a chicken.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes!! My little ladies are all still young (a little over 6 weeks) but they have plenty of personality

.....I really hope they keep that! I am really excited about getting eggs even tho it sounds as if I won't see that for another 4 or 5 months. We mainly started our little coop for our kiddos (and eggs of course) and that's why we chose the barred rocks, as I had heard they were kid friendly. Then we put some white rocks in for some color difference, but now that I have been learning more and seeing all the different breeds, I want so many different kinds! Problem is, that we are limited in town to how many we can have, so within the year we will move to the country where I can expand my addiction!!!!

You're very welcome! Waiting for the first eggs is hard but very rewarding once they finally come along! And yes, I'm sure once you move to the county, your chicken addiction will grow worse and soon you'll have a whole handful of birds!:)
