Hello everyone!

sorry....now no one will probably talk to me...) sooooooooo, anyway....this is my first real chicken parenting. I had a friend moving and she knew I was interested in getting some chickens, so I inherited hers--- 6 Ameracauna hens, 1 Golden Campine hen and one seriously dorky looking Polish rooster that they had affectionately named Peckerhead. So, I have a nice little flock, they are currently free-ranging my five acres of yard and horse pasture and even giving me some eggs! I'm sure I will have tons of questions as I go along so I'm so happy to have found you all!

Thank you for taking me in,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne , very nice to meet you. Do you have much predation in your locale? Predators are always looking for a easy lunch.

Hi Suzanne and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. I wish you all the best with your new flock.

The Learning Centre is a great resource, even for experienced chicken keepers - loads of info on anything chicken. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Joining your state thread will put you in contact with other BYC members in your area, which can be very helpful.

The members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

All the best

I think hawks are the biggest threat here, but our flock stays under the trees and in the bushes for the most part!!
