My mother and I have just recently started looking into raising chickens. Friends of the family have really been encouraging us to bring chickens into our lives since my parents bought ten acres.

We live in the Midwest and our home is rural enough that we will have to deal with the strong possibility of predators ( such as coyotes) getting to our chickens.

Mom wants to have a moveable tractor coop. She wants to start small since we will only have around three hens. Is there any way that we can make this style coop safer for our chickens so we do not have to worry about other critters getting to them?

Most designs that I have seen, have had a small gap at the base of the structure. Is there a way to eliminate this without making the coop hard to move?

We are looking towards a simple A-frame style. Something we could build in a weekend without spending an arm and a leg.

Any addition information would also be appreciated. We are very new to chickens and we want to know as much as we can before getting any hens.

Thanks!
