I picked up a silkie hen off of Craigslist yesterday. I could tell she had some loose poops. They were stuck in the feathers by her vent. Otherwise she seemed fine. Hours later I noticed foamy discharge in her eyes and occasional sneezing. She does have whitish yellow diarrhea. She's been stretching her neck out and tilting her head back like she is yawning or has a feather in her throat lol. Sometimes i catch her opening her mouth to take a breath while sitting but not full on gasping. No noticeable breathing sounds. She is eating and drinking. She refused crumbles mixed with yogurt. I've kept her in the living room where I can watch her today. She stays sitting or standing on a towel right where I put her. She preens and looks around but doesn't wander. She might be weirded out by the cats and the dog sleeping in the room.
I've read about electrolyte mixes for her water, apple cider vinegar for her water, tried yogurt for probiotics. Went to the feed store to try and get some emergency meds on hand. I ended up with sulmet and duramycin 72-200 injectable. The girl at the counter said she knows of people using the duramycin orally. I read about using 1/8 tsp per 1 cup water which comes out to 0.61ml per cup water and to change every 24 hours. Has anyone used duramycin injectable orally? I couldn't find anything online that said not to.
I just had an outbreak of coccidiosis in my chicks and lost all 5. They were old enough that I reduced their heat and doing that their shavings got wet and stayed wet. It was a week where I let their cage get dirtier than usual. I got corid as soon as I saw blood in their droppings but I was too late
Can anyone advise me on my birds symptoms, and the duramycin? I've read a zillion articles and she either doesn't have all the symptoms of what I'm reading about, or as severe of symptoms as they describe.
