A year ago my wife was given some chickens, and of course she said, "honey, I need a coop, please". Which I of course took to mean, "get it done, and I mean now. I am bringing them home tomorrow."
So I promptly build this pathetic looking, made from pallets and shingles, and threw them in it.
I never gave a thought to predators and cleanliness.
So, four dead, one seriously hurt by a possum last night, and I guess I had better figure out what I'm doing.
So here I am, so forgive my questions in advance, I'm a city boy living in the country.

Don't feel too badly, until you have to deal with predators you don't give them much thought. Check out the predator threads to see how to outsmart, trap, prevent, or scare off different types. As they often say on here "everything loves chicken," that includes rats, weasels, minks, along with the bigger guys

no worries. It happends to us all. we have them all here in the great state of michigan. From bears to rats they all love chickens and or eggs. live an learn.
