New to Chickens in PA

Live in south central PA, near Altoona. Looking to get 10 hens and 2 roosters. Thinking either Buff Orphington or Barred Rock. This is my first time with chickens so I decided to go with easy breeds.

My coop is under construction at the moment. It will be 120 square feet with a large covered run. Want to have a spot for me to sit and enjoy them. The coop and run will be automated with a Raspberry Pi.

Hello, and welcome! Glad that you have joined! You are choosing good breed's for your area up there. You could get some of each of the 2 breed's to have color variation for your flock. It's fun to sit out there with the chicken's and watch them. I have a good rooster that I don't have to worry about.

You're going to LOVE having chickens! I got my first day old chicks almost 10 years ago. Best decision ever. They're so entertaining and smart! My oldest remaining hen is from that first batch of 6 chicks. Macie Gracie will be 10 years old this May. She is a Barred Rock.
