My wife and I bought six chicks from TSC about a week before Easter. Just a little over 2 weeks ago, we got 9 Black Copper Marans from a local breeder. We have really enjoyed them so far. We have done lots of internet research and BYC has given us much of what we have learned so far.
The first six that we got were 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 "Red Pullets", and 2 "Pullets". So far, we believe the Buff's ended up as one Cockerel and one Pullet. We think the Red's are 2 Red Sex Link. The other 2 are just plain white and we are not sure what breed they are. They are roughly 7 to 8 weeks old now.
We can tell that one of the BCM's that we ended up with is not a pure breed. It does not have feathers on it's legs, the body is slightly smaller and slightly more rounded than the rest, and the feather pattern (so far) has much more color to it. I remember the guy saying he also had some Cornish but I don't remember any specifics.
It has been a fun learning experience for us so far and we are glad to be a member of BYC.
