(1) I am what I would consider a chicken newby.... had a few backyard RIRs in elementary/high school but am now getting started with an urban flock.
(2) I have two sdl barnevelder chicks who we hatched at home from locally purchased eggs in a Brinsea mini. Soon to arrive are 5 more!
(3) Working on our mixed flock, to arrive by late spring:
1 sdl barnevelder
1 lav orpington
1 bbs ameraucana
1 black copper marans
1 salmon faverolles
1 olive egger
(4) Just a fun family project to teach our kids about food production and animal husbandry. I also love chickens because you can get some really fancy breeds/colours for really low cost - it’s about 100x the cost for a fancy breed dog/cat!
(5) I’m also into horseback riding (dressage), sourdough baking, hiking.
(6) We are a family of 4 with twin boys
I’m in the veterinary field but new to poultry and trying to learn quickly!
(7) I found the community during many of my google searches looking for answers to my 1000s of questions getting started with chickens.
Pic of two fluffy butts and our coop in progress for fun!
