Hi,
I'm Shawna in Soldotna and we have just started our flock this summer. We have a flock of 25 that will be halved come time to harvest the roosters. We are new to all of this. We have Jersey Black Giants, Barred Rock and something else that I can't remember right this second. We bought them from a gal down in Homer and they are doing fantastic. We brooded them in the living room from 3-4 days old. I'm enjoying these chickens far too much. Any advise for a newbie would be appreciated! We are planning on insulating their coop for winter and are hoping to get eggs over the winter as well. We also planted a huge garden in our huge greenhouse so this summer is chock full of new things for us. I've read some old threads and it is great to have all that information and experience so readily available. Next year I hope to do more meat chickens as this year we will only have about a dozen.
