I got my son a very small chicken (he's 20) and responsible
I hope it's not a problem with our HOA. It's very tiny and not a rooster. He is building it a coupe this weekend. We live in Phoenix near Chandler.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. It's always risky having chickens where HOAs prohibit them. Inevitably it seems some cranky neighbor finds out and reports the chicken owner. I know that some of our members do keep "stealth" chickens in such environments, but it's hard to hide chickens when you're building a coop, especially if it looks like a coop. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicken.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I too agree with Michael that it could be risky and I would make some enquiries about being able to keep chickens. Do you know what breed you have got? Some chickens can be kept as house chickens. Seramas are usually a good choice for house chickens.
Have you checked out the learning centre? Lots of great articles on all aspects of keeping poultry. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC!

I hope this works out for everyone and the chicken. HOA's can be real sticklers for rules so good luck.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Nice to have you here!

My friend has had house chickens over 25 years, generally bantams. She has 2 seramas and 2 silkies right now. I think seramas are the smallest breed of chicken and silkies don't look like chickens at all. Often people mistake them for dogs at a distance. They don't fly and are usually docile, quiet birds. You could tell people they are an exotic parrot.

Check out "people with house chickens thread." it's a very good read and lets you know how widespread this practice is. Good luck to you.
