Eastern Colorado
Hey everyone, I'm from eastern Colorado, and my dad and are setting up our first coop. We are expecting the coop to arrive on Monday, but probably wont get chickens until the spring. We are planning on five birds to start with. I'm thinking of barred rocks and Rhode island reds. Any advice would be helpful!

Hello and welcome to BYC! You've come to the right place for help and info! Your choice of chickens is a good start, they are cold hardy so winter shouldn't be too hard on those breeds. Good luck!:welcome

I'm hoping that I'm doing this right, but I'm just trying to introduce myself to this community of chicken enthusiasts, such as myself., I'm planning to build me a run and create a small coop to provide my wife and grandchildren with some farm fresh eggs and eventually poultry. I'd like to know which breed is the gentle breed of hens. Would anyone care to help me with that info?
