Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Total newbie to chickens. Got them with a coop, feeder, waterer, and well wishes from someone getting out of chickens.

How many chickens do you have right now?
Sharing 6 mature hens with our awesome neighbors: 1 lavendar orpington (no longer laying), 4 rhode island reds, 1 little bantam whose type I don't know.

How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Desperately searching for information online! Plus the recommendation of good friends who've been into chickens for years.

What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, veggie gardening, hiking, camping.

Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

4 kids, 1 spouse, 1 bernese mountain dog....

Bernese Mountain Dogs are one of my favorites! Sounds like you have a lovely bunch of animals!

Enjoy them, welcome to our flock, and happy new year!

G’Day from down under SeattleLibrarian :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Welcome to BYC!

Here is my best advice for navigating this forum:

If you have not already, put your location in your profile, not your address or anything but at least your state that will help you get better advice, and speaking of advice....

Almost everyone here is an absolute expert on almost everything imaginable, take me for example I have left advice about freezing temps and I live in Southern California. So take the best and leave the rest.

Once you do get some good advice, and you will, then follow said advice... Example being the guy who burned down his coop after being advised not to use a heat lamp in the coop and then talks about how to place the heat lamp going forward in the new coop....

Stay away from religion and politics, its just not worth it:oops:

Oh, and build BIG, chicken math is real:plbb

Welcome to the flock!
