I've got some 7 week old pullets that I've recently moved to coop. Everything that I've read says to lock them inside for a few days so they learn where to go to roost. The problem is that it's been in the 80's and 90's here and I'm afraid that if I lock them in, they will be too hot. The coop is attached to a run. Any suggestions? Tonight I thought I would see if they would go up the ladder by themselves, but they didn't. I had to put them inside.

Hello and welcome from Ohio....so glad you joined us. I have a fan in my coop that I keep on low. My chickens come in the coop and stand in front of it. Good luck

Your chicks will get the hang of the coop thing. If it is too warm to lock them in during the day, then let them out. You can lure them back in at night with a tray of goodies. I never do rely on them going to bed by themselves at night and lure them in for head count and such.

Good luck with your babies!
