Hi! I'm Jennifer and my family and I are new to chicken keeping. We live in rural Maine and have about two acres of land. This summer is our first time keeping chickens and it's been so much fun! Our family consists of myself, my husband Robin, our daughter Sara who's two and our three boys ages 18,16 and 13. We also have two dogs who think the chickens are wonderful too.
Our little flock consists of two winedot partridge bantams, a buff brahma bantam, a mottled cochin bantam, a pair of easter eggers and a barred rock. We think the barred rock is going to be a rooster, but our others are all hens. They have a nice little coop out back and have been a wonderful help keeping the ticks down in the yard this year. Our girls have been so much fun and I'm really excited about learning more about them!
We got all of the chicks except the Barred rock in mid-May and they are all feathered out beautifully except for our little runty Mottled cochin. She's still got all her baby fluff. Some of her wing feathers have finally started to come in, but I wish I knew what I could do to help her. They are all eating a good, healthy chick starter and B.D. (that's the cochin) is eating fine and doing all the other happy chicken things. I've been keeping her inside at night though because it's still getting down into the forties here with the rain we've had. Any ideas?
Thank you and God bless!
