I am a new chicken owner. I have had my 6 Ameraucana chicks for almost 3 weeks. They are Broomhilda, Penny, Amy, Bernadette, Olive, and Henrietta. I have had great fun already!!! They all have their own personalities. I have raised rabbits for 14 years and thought I would branch out into poultry. I am the 4-H Rabbit Club leader in our county and the Poultry barn is right next to us. I would visit them when my Rabbit Club kids wanted to introduce me to their chickens. lol

We have already had drama with "Broomhilda" pecking the eyes of the other chicks. (That is how she got her name.) I put her in timeout and verbally scolded her. I am a teacher and thought that would work. After a few days of time out she figured out how to get over the barrier, but has been good every since. Whew!!!! I used some of the suggestions on this forum to help me so I figured I would officially join. Wish me luck in this new adventure.

So glad you decided to join us.

Hope Broomhilda continues to behave.

I wish you great success with your new adventure.

I am fairly new for I have had mine for 6 months, I had trouble like that before, but they quickly got over it! Good luck and have fun in your new adventure <3 we are always here to help answer you questions

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. X2 on drumstick diva and the pinless peepers. They will prevent Broomhilda from seeing straight in front of her to peck at the other chickens, but she will still be able to eat and drink using her peripheral vision. If you're not familiar with pinless peepers, you can see them at https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/pinless_peepers.html. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Broomhilda.

Thanks everyone!!!!!!! I have already spent several hours on the BYC Forum.......I think it could become an addiction......
