My husband and I have only been doing this for a little over a month. We started with 8 rir chicks from TSC. Looks like we got five roos and maybe 3 hens. Three weeks ago we went back to TSC and bought 6 pullets (sadly we lost one) we don't know what they are yet,but I love being a chick mom.

My Wife and I have been doing this for 4 to 5 weeks now. We started out with 8 R.I.Reds from TSC. About 3 1/2 weeks ago we went back to TSC and got 6 pullets. One of them died...stuff happens. We only got them to supply us with fresh eggs and meat that we grow ourselves that is not commercially processed and full of hormones and chemicals. Chickens are fun to be around for the most part. I myself have not been around them at all since my teen years and earlier on the family farm. I am looking forward to this.
