Hi everyone,
I joined because I have wanted to raise chickens and now have a space and the time to devote to them. My wife has raised them before so she is excited to do so again. We will have a small flock of 4-5. since it is almost summer any advice on starting now or should we wait for spring? We thought about pullets but my wife really wants to start with chicks so the dogs can be introduced with them as babies.

Please be very careful. Dogs either regard chicks as dinner, or as squeaky toys. Either way generally end up the same. A dog will run and grab a chick and shake it till it stops peeping = DEAD. Then it will chase another one and so on. It a few minutes a whole hatch can be wiped out. You never hear of a chicken killing a dog.
Dog and chicks should only meet from opposite sides with a secure, fence between them.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

You can start whenever you feel ready. As long as you have all their essentials prepared as well as their home built, you can go ahead and get them. Be sure to check out our learning center. TONS of helpful info there. Mymilliefleur has given you some good links to check out.
