So I'm new to chickens pretty much. I just purchased 6 day olds from tractor supply and one has already died. It kept shaking it's head and would not move around at all. Any ideas on the problem? Or should I be concerned with other chicks health..? Thanks

I had the same thing happen to me once out of the 4 times of getting chicks from TSC. There could be many reasons of why the chick died though. Sorry for your loss.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about the chick you lost :hugs Shipping is hard on chicks, and some just do not handle it very well, hopefully the rest of them will be OK. Be sure they are warm enough and are all eating and drinking, you might want to put something like Sav-A-Chik or sugar in the water for a day or two. There are some nice articles in the Learning Center on keeping chicks the first few weeks you might like also, ie https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/raising-your-baby-chicks

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sorry about your loss!

Kelsie has given you good advice. Definitely keep an eye on the others and let us know if anything seems unusual.

I usually go with 1tablespoon sugar per quart of water for the first day on shipped chicks, hatcheries suggest up to 3 tb/qt.
