We just got chicks yesterday, 4/8/15. We got 2 buff orpingtons, 2 buckeyes, 2 golden laced wyandottes, 2 cuckoo marans and 1 Rhode Island Red. We are so excited yet so nervous!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Congrats on the new chicks! It is normal to be a bit nervous. As many times I have brooded chicks, I still get up at midnight to check on them, even the smallest of noises wakes me to go check in on them. It's like Chick TV looking into the brooder, you can hardly look away!

You picked out some nice breeds. I think you will enjoy all of them greatly!

Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of good articles on raising your new birds from chick to adulthood....https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Enjoy your new babies!! If you have any questions about them along the way, feel free to ask around the forums. Welcome to our flock!

Wishing you the very best of luck with your new chicks. Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Thanks! We have one chick with a slight case of pasty butt. I used a wet paper towel last night and just my finger this morning. Our 4 year old and 17 month old girls love them.

So glad you could join our community! Congratulations on your new babies. Bringing home chickens can be so exciting! You've picked out some excellent breeds, all with reputations for docile temperaments and good egg production. My Wyandottes are my favorite chickens, because of their inquisitive, amusing personalites and very good egg production. I've enjoyed my Rhode Island Red, too.

Don't be too nervous!

Chickens are rather hardy creatures. Despite occasional newbie mistakes, most chicks do just fine with their new owners. If you have any problems along the way, feel free to ask any questions you may have! We'll be happy to help out.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. You have a nice mix of breeds. Buff Orpingtons are especially a good breed to have with children as they are very calm and gentle. My children and grandddaughter (pcitured in my avatar) made lap pets out of our BOs. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter loves our chickens. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
