Hi guys. just wanted to say this is my first time at back yard chickens. Its also my first week raising chickens but my lord what intresting creatures they are. my first flock so far is 3 silver laced wyandotts, 13 RIR, and 11 cronish cross. my RIr and Cronish are a week and a half old.
im very surprised at the growth rate by the cornish cross i knew they would grow quicker to achevie the weight's they do but there huge allready. on the bright side though they are way friendlier then the other two breeds we have.
my questions are i know that i have to limit the feed and ive read that to just take the feed out after 12 hours wich i plan to start when they are two weeks old. they are off the brooder now as my out buildings stay at a pretty conistant warm temp, and my brother told me that since they arnt on the brooder lamp that they wont need to be limited on feed as when the sun goes down they will stop eating, that being said the sun rises here at 5am and doesnt set till around 11pm thats way longer then the 12 hours recomended feeding per day. i have also read charts about feed consumption but to be honest that seems l[ike alot more work then just pulling the feeder out after 12 hours. can someone just give me a heads up on whats the right action to take and how they go about it
by the way the pics are from top to bottom.
my 3 silver laced wyandotts curtosy of my brother 2 hens and 1 rooster
my wife with and avarage sized cornish at 1.5 weeks old
our 2story pen, second story was added after i found out my wife said yes to more chickens
and our RIR chicks who have there own hen house with an outside run
