Hi my name is Holly, Im new to ducks and was curious on a few things and wanted some opinions. I ended up adopting some ducks. First it was two Campbell's and now I adopted 5 Pekin/Rouen mix. The campbells are 5 months and the pekin/Rouens are 2 months. Im thinking I have way more drakes than hens and I don't really want to get rid of them. I was wondering if I housed the hens separately, would the drakes be ok or will there be fights? I know their fights are not as aggressive as roosters but I still don't want it to be constant. And will they only fight during mating season? My goal is to find the simplest way to have a good environment for them without rehoming any and not having babies. I definitely would love to have eggs though.

I, personally, have had significant success with housing hens separately from drakes/roos too.
Without the females there for them to spar for mating rights to, their aggression does stifle significantly. It all depends on the individual bird, though. :idunno

Here's hoping that you find our fantastic community to be overflowing with all the poultry info you could ever be in need of- and maybe you'll make a few lasting acquaintances along the way. :D
