I'm having so much fun (and learning SO much) getting onto this forum.
My first introduction to chickens was a game rooster who found my property after escaping from a local cock fighting ring 7 years ago. I absolutely fell in love, and got 6 pullets from a local feed store right after (never mixed them with the rooster). I absolutely loved my little hens - 2 buff orpingtons, 2 barred rocks, and 2 black australorps. I lost three through natural causes over the years, still having 3 until a few months ago when I lost all within a few minutes to a coyote while I was letting them free-range.
I was devastated. I wasn't sure I could do chicks again, but when I settled into my senses I decided to start again with 8 chicks, which using chicken math and wanting to try a number of breeds, ended up 17.
My little babies, brooded in the master bathroom (was fun, won't do it in there again!), are now out in the coop and run at 8 weeks. They are a mix of barred and partridge rocks, blue and white cochins, dark and buff brahmas, silver penciled wyandottes, speckled sussexs, a barnevelder, an easter egger, and a cuckoo maran.
