i'm not new to chicken keeping but i'm new to posting on this forum.

i have a Scots Grey rooster, 2 gold tops, 1 welsummer and 3 cream legbars.

i found out about this forum while researching what herbs chickens like in their nest boxes.

i'm a crofter in Scotland. I've got bees and a border collie dog. i'm getting experience working on sheep, goat and cattle farms in Scotland and Norway in preparation for expanding my croft. I work part time as a maintenance gardener and I produce crafts to sell.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. I'm sorry but don't understand what a "crofter," is.

in scotland we have 'marginal', difficult to farm land that families use to produce some of their income from.

they use hardy animals that can make use of rough ground and can cope with extreme wind and wet conditions.

crofters are the people who use this land - crofting is at the centre of our agricultural and social traditions, especially in the highlands.

The food thats produced on a croft tends to be lean healthy meat, excellent fish, root vegetables, kale and all ecologically sustainable.
