During the week I received my incubator in the post. I collected up my eggs and set them today. But my incubator wants them upside down and not on their side. Why is that? I have no room for them to be placed on their side. When it comes close to hatching should I put them on their side or leave them. Also how does the chick not stick to the membrane when this way(point down) please help

Most of the incubators with auto turning are pointy side down. I don't know why. During lockdown 3 days before hatch day take them out of the auto turner and lay them on their sides. I mark them with a Crayola non-toxic marker so if the other chicks knock them around I can set them right again when I grab the chicks out quickly.

I have a x on one side and an o on the other in pencil as my incubator is not an automatic turning one. But where will I put them 3 days before they hatch where is warm enough

You don't have an auto turner? I'm confused then, how does your incubator hold them upright? What incubator are you using?

It has a tray it is only a small one that holds seven eggs, if my hatch is successful I will get a bigger one. The instructions say to place them pointy side down in the tray. But I wanted to place them side ways but there isn't enough room.

They need to be pointy side down because the air cell is in the fat side of the egg. They will drown if turned the wrong way. on their side is okay. You have to take the tray out on lockdown anyways so as long as you hand turn them on their side is fine.
