Hello.

My name is Loraine and a week ago my family rescued 6 battery hens. We were told they are about 12-14 months old. They were very badly bruised and smelled horrible! We spent a lot of time lurking around this site before getting the chickens and have built them a really nice coop using ideas from here. We built the coop using primarily second hand materials donated by friends and family as well as a pretty amazing yard sale deal on wire, a rain barrel and watering "bowl".

The girls are very scared, but they are making huge improvements every day. Their combs and wattles are getting a bit of colour and they don't smell so bad. They are loving life and the ability to move around and peck at the ground. They still sleep huddled in one big chicken pile at night. They are the sweetest things are we are looking forward to learning as much as we can about our new friends.

from NJ! You're a kind person to rescue battery hens. I wanted to, but don't know where to get them. Where did you get yours? I hope they become friendly pets and they get healthier!

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!

It is always refreshing to see someone rescuing battery chickens!!

These birds are a reminder of the prehistoric days of dinosaurs,
because they are part dinosaurs...

Chicken and other fowl personalities are fanastic.

Bless You For Being a Rescuer!

A local farmer had them posted on an online classifieds page. He was selling them for 25 cents each.

We used to have rabbits! I love rabbits. They are so sweet.
