My husband works on a farm and the owner gave him 4 Geese as a tip for some work he did. Currently I have them penned in a 8x12 dog kennel. We will be fencing off 350’ around our pond for them and moving that kennel over there for them.
Questions:
-1 anyone know what type they are? We have two white with a little bit of gray feathers. And two gray ones.
-2 best feeding options for winter. We are in Western NY state. So we won’t have grass much longer.
-3 anyone know where I can order and what to order to sprout fodder for them and the chickens?
-4 The owner told my husband they wouldn’t use shelter and they only need hay and cracked corn. I am concerned about that. I am picking up a little tykes barn later today and my plan is to at least offer them this as a choice. Anyone have any other suggestions for shelter for them? Any other tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time in advance.

Here is a photo of them. The first two times the photo didn't attach. So much for a certain mobile internet co... In rural towns.

Pictures would help with breed indentification.

A 20% all flock feed would be good for them, some good options are Purina flock raiser and nutrena all flock.

Forage turnip is a favorite fodder for my geese, alfalfa is another good option.

Geese need shelter, but they don’t always use it in foul weather, I suspect the sound of rain on the roof frightens them. The best option is a little barn, roofed cage that they can be herded into during bad weather and at night.

Just hay and cracked corn is an awful diet. I would assume they’re underweight and malnourished from being fed that so o would suggest getting them some vitamins for their water and definitly getting them a balanced feed.

I am hoping at the very least there is 2 pairs here. Although 1 male and 3 females would be ideal I think.
