So we thought it would be fun to buy some peacock hatching eggs and add them to our already day old duck eggs in the incubator. 28 days later and one peachick is all we got in the entire incubator! There were four to start with, two not fertile. So now we have this lonely little peachick and we gave it two healthy chick friends so far. Its maybe 2 or 3 days old but I am unsure if its eating. Tips? I got it to eat a little bit of boiled egg yolk earlier this morning. Unsure of color or sex at this point. Lady had pieds, black shoulders, and lots more. These eggs came from a mixed batch. Also, anything special I should know? I have raised chickens for show for 4 years, and ducks for 1 year. Right now it has chicken kibble, chick started crumbles, boiled egg yolk, and clean water.

I know only the male peacock gets the lovely long tail feathers.
I know adult peacocks have cowpie sized poop.

That is probably all I know on taking care of peafowl lol.

I don't have any faith in ducks hatching for me here, i tried 8 eggs under my seasoned Muscovy duck and not one made nor hatched and i know most of them had to be fertile cause i collect from 4 nest and the ones i hatched came from the same clutches, no more duck hens for me..

If you see it is eating and drinking it will be fine, if not dip the tip of it's little beak and show it the water and wet a bit of feed and see if you can interest it in the food on your finger, once it starts eating wet a bit of feed in it's bow and put your finger in the food and move it around to gets it's attention do this a threw the day if you can , it will figure it out, having other chicks of any kind will also help them to learn how to eat. don't make changes in the brooder keep things the same for at least a week so they can get into a routine.

Best way to learn about the peas and their raisen is to pull up a chair and stick with the group, in a months time you will read about illness injury, the great things they do that make us small and all things peafowl, we all learn as we go the amount you learn will be determined by the amount of time you are here and the amount of time you spend with your birds.

We were all new to peas at one time, never be afraid to ask questions

Awesome! Those are the exact things I do with chicks lol. Ill dip my finger in water, then feed and they attack my finger. We always dip the beak in water to make sure they drink. And I always take my finger and scratch to show them food like momma chicken.

Thanks for the tips! I got it eating boiled egg yolk. So next step is to mix the yolk with crumble. My mom said that they like to be held. No problem here! Lol. Its already sweet and tame.

Are they easy prey to hawks by any chance?
