A rooster of any bird does not have anything to do with a hen laying an egg.His job is to fertilize the eggs.The hens job is to lay the egg even if there is no rooster to fertilize the egg.

Just look at it like a woman having a period, cat/dog coming in heat, etc. - female birds lay eggs. Doesn't matter if a male is around or not.
