Hi,
My name is Kyle and my family and I have decided it's time to start providing for ourselves a bit more and Chickens is a good way to start.
I've been creeping this site for a while and it has a lot of really good information! I'm currently designing our coop and run, and plan to build it over this summer and start our chickens next spring.
We live in Eastern Ontario in the country about an hour southwest of Ottawa. This year we even tapped our own maple tree's and boiled some maple syrup, so we're having a lot of fun getting back to basics and enjoying what nature has to offer us.

My plan: about 6 laying hens. I'm thinking a couple white leghorns, a couple plymouth bard rocks, and a couple rhode island reds (because my grandparents always had them when I was a kid). And if I can find it, I'd love to get a chicken that lays blue or green eggs! That would purely be for fun.
We are also throwing around the idea of doing some meat birds, but for now I'll ease into it with egg layers.

Anyways, we look forward to this adventure, and I appreciate all the great info that is available through backyardchickens.com.
Cheers!
Kyle
