Hello all,
I am new to raising birds. We live in the center of Salt Lake City, UT. And am loving every minute of it.
I currently have 4 hens and two ducks. We have a Buff Orpington, Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte, Ameraucana, and a Dominique for our chickies. And for our ducks we have one Golden 300 Hybrid and one magnificent white Pekin. All of our birds are 10 weeks old today!
Our Spring weather this year has been crazy. One day it's very warm the next we have had light snow flurries. Not to mention tons and tons of rain. Needless to say it has been great for our yard. But hell trying to get our chicken coop finished up. However, I am happy to announce that we should be finishing up the very last touches this afternoon. Then it will be ready for our ladies. They have been chilling in the garage for the last several weeks. They can't wait to stay outside all day and night! And my boyfriend is anxious to have our garage back.
I have utilized Backyard Chickens for so many ideas, advice, and inspiration during the process of selecting our birds, preparing for them, and building our coop. I figured though, as we are now full-fledged flock owners, that we better sign up for our own account and share in the fun. The past several weeks have been a roller-coaster and I can't wait to share and learn more. I will be posting our coop and the progress we took creating it in the near future. We refer to as the Tahj Mahal, which at times felt elaborate. But with it coming to completion, I am happy with the result and know our birds will love it.
I look forward to meeting many of you. Happy gathering!
