My name is Michael and I live on an aspiring urban homestead. Thast is to say we are aspiring to be as self sufficient as possible in an urban setting, but it is slow going. We just started raising chickens in the spring and started with 3 mixed heritage breed hens. Two of them turned out to be roosters so we got rid of them. Since then we rescued a small golden hen from the fox ridden land of my uncle. She was the last of her flock to survive the fox there. We also picked up 4 chicks around easter, one of which died 4 or 5 weeks into it for unknown reasons. the 5 chickens that are currently in our flock in order of age are: unidentified golden hen, speckled sussex, barred rock, gold laced wyandotte, and black australorp. They have a large run and coop in our backyard and seem pretty happy. Would love to connect with other chicken owners in Philly.
Michael
