My husband and I picked up our first flocks this May from our local farmers co-op. We started with 12 Barred Rocks, 5 Indian Runners and 7 Khaki Campbells, all day old adorable babies. We unfortunately lost one of our Runners in the first few weeks (they didn't ship well from the hatchery and had a rough start). They are now all outside in pens that Frank built for them and we are fencing in a very large area for them to free range.

Ironically the same day our messy ducks went outside we picked up another 7 ducklings at the co-op while there for a new waterer. So now we have another 2 Peking, 2 Runners, and 3 Rouens who are almost ready to go outside too. Not to mention the 13 Russian Orloff chicks that shipped out today and should arrive tomorrow or the next day(12 hens and 1 rooster).

I enjoy them all so much! Even though the ducks are SO MESSY!!! They make up for it in entertainment and companionship. The chickens are SO EASY! I don't know why anyone would say that they are hard to raise, they free range when we are home and then tuck themselves in at night before the sun goes down. Not like the ducks who have to be coralled in when it gets too dark (or when momma gets tired of watching after them).

Looking forward to more babies!!

you will be needing it. This forum is as addicting as the chickens themselves.
