I have a 9-month old Saxony drake and just got 2, 3 day old ducklings. I am VERY new at this, but love my ducks a lot! The 9-month old eats crumbles and every variety of lettuce (except iceberg). He loves desert rose flowers, but I can't get him to eat much else. About 2 months ago, he started exhibiting almost mating like behavior every time I went into his pen. I had been looking for other Saxonys to get for him. I don't know how to introduce the ducklings to him or when, but I figured that I probably couldn't do that until the ducklings were at least 2-4 months old. Any thoughts? Also, I don't know when they can be put in water to swim (when they start producing oil). I have been feeding them baby crumbles, and tried to give them pureed peas, but they didn't eat the peas. What other foods should I introduce and when? I don't have a scale, but they have been gaining weight and their crops are ALWAYS full! I also heard that I should give them Niacin, if someone could advise me on that I would appreciate it. They also can't stand to be held.

I introduce new ducks into a flock by building a smaller pen inside the larger day pen. I put the new ducks in the smaller pen during the day and take them inside at night. This way they can all get used to eachother without being able to touch eachother. Once you feel like they are getting along you can slowly increase the time they spend together in the same pen. Good luck :)
