Hi!

I have new to chickens, got them in May 2021, and I am loving it so far but have questions and not sure where to go! I have 1 Barred Rock Rooster and 6 hens, they have just started laying over the last week or so. I love to watch them and interact with them. The Rooster is starting to get feisty! He was pecking at me this morning and he has been getting my 3 year old. I love to crochet and camp as well! I am a medical coordinator at a large clinic in my home town and now currently working from home, which is nice since I can watch my chickens and ducks! I am married and have 2 small children, have an Anatolian Pyrenes puppy, a old cat, 6 chickens and a duck at my house! I love animals! I can't wait to hear all your advise!

Rooster is doing what he is wired to do, protect HIS flock. Keep a small rake with you at all times , train him to stay back, dont leave your 3yr old to fend for himself, rooster WILL peck him, pick up rooster, show him you are the alpha rooster, be assertive not aggressive dont yell or hit him, he will take this as a challenge and become more aggressive.

Thank you so much! I usually just point at him and say,"No sir! He is your family!" And he backs off. Today is the first time he has attacked me! I carried a kids bat after he did it to me. I had to pop him this morning to get him to stop. I love that bird but he needs to learn!
