Hi, my name is Johna and I live in central Texas. I have about 75 chickens- Silkies, Americanas, Welsummers, Marans, white Leghorns, and a few mutts. Also 6 ducks. Would love to have swans and geese as well. I incubate my own eggs mostly, as my silkies are still young.
I am almost 50 and semi-retired. I love self-sufficiency and being a woman living alone means I am never bored or out of projects! Lol
I found this site while looking at coop plans. Gigantic coop in progress and now making plans for an automatic coop door. I plan to use water weight (in a bucket) with pulleys. Timers will turn the water on, filling the bucket and the weight will open the door. In the evening, another timer will drain the water (into the chicken's auto waterer), closing the coop door. Not sure if my explanation makes sense, but it works in my head so I'm going with it.
Well, this has been long winded enough, LOL. Look forward to checking out the rest of the site.
Johna
