I am in Tennessee and am married to a great guy who will be building a coop this weekend.....I have 2 American Eskimos (I can not wait until Windsong my 5 year old Eskie sees these chicks)
and Snowy who is 17....I have wanted to eat the most healthy eggs and would look all over for pastured eggs ...I would have to go to Maryville and thought I should raise chicks...I went to my friend's house and got to meet them and they are fascinating....she has some cool other breeds that she wants to breed and is giving me the ones that she doesn't...
Welcome to BYC! You have come to the coolest place on the internet for chicken knowledge.
I started with chickens last summer and the people of BYC have been great. This year I have tried hatching and buying chicks for even more chickeny joy. Please visit my BYC Page for my blog links that you may find informative or amusing.
Ok we are not going to get the hens that came with the rooster, so back to square one...
We saw some Easter Eggers and Buff Orphington-- We are wanting to get at least 10 more...hens
So here are my two ???'s
The two Roosters I already have Delaware and Welsummer are they ok with other breeds of hens?
Also, we need to make a coop quick for the 5 we are getting...do we build a small one and can you add on for more hens or do we build a big one from the start....I am hoping we can start small because I want to get the 5 this week...
Thanks,
for all your help...
Our coop will have to be very protective we live in the woods and there are alot of predators...I read about bears....How do you keep a bear from getting into a coop...they are so big and I can not even put up bird feeders anymore.....
