Hello!

My name is Devon and I am from south east Texas. I am getting into the chicken owning world. I do not currently have a flock, just started doing all the research and looking at all the different breeds. I am a college student, work part time, and live with my boyfriend. I am very excited to get my flock started! Any advice is welcomed and wanted.

Hi and welcome,

I am new to this site, it's awesome!
I have had chickens for a year.
I started with a mother and her six chicks. Araucana crosses.

Now i have a flock of 14 down from 17 i had two losses and a spare rooster.
I also have two geese and two ducks coming on Friday.
I am warning you they are addictive :ya

That is a strange coincidence... because I had 17 and lost 2 older hens + had one to many roosters... (that leaves 14). Afterward, I lost several more hens and picked up some crested chicks at feed store (which are now 5 months). That makes the current population 14... :D They definitely are addictive! :p I love them!

I'm quite new to this as well. With your busy schedule I would suggest keeping a small flock. They can be a lot of work but soooo much fun! Very rewarding as well. You provide TLC and they provide yummy eggs. My fresh eggs cook and taste better than store bought. It's also a wonderful feeling knowing my flock are treated humanely.

Welcome to Backyardchickens.com aka BYC! :frow
