Hi, my name is Melinda and I live in North County San Diego a town called Escondido. I started my chicken journey 5 months ago with 5 New Hampshire Reds chicks. They have been laying eggs of all sizes shapes during the month of August. Let me tell you that first egg was soooooo eggexciting! 4 of my gals are laying ok, pretty small but mostly good little eggs. My one gal, we call her large Marge. She seems to be having trouble getting her egg laying business done right. A lot of weird eggs coming from her "even 2 eggs stuck together. What bothers me is.......one of my chickens "who walks around like she is high and mighty" laying great eggs and her name is Peggy. Peggy has been bullying Marge, pecks at her every chance she gets. So much so I had to put additional feeders and water so the poor thing could eat.
My question.....how long does this bullying thing last? When Marge gets the hang of laying good eggs will Peggy lay off of her? They never had a problem before only when they started laying eggs. I love my chickens.

Hi and welcome!

Like @DobieLover says--hormones are RAGING right now and will start to level out soon. Once the dust settles you'll likely have a new pecking order. If Peggy is still being a brat then she could be a brat bully chicken and Marge could just be bottom of the order and have to take the pecks that come with it. Lots of resources here to help you out should you need to revisit the issue.

Good luck!
