Good Afternoon BYC community! This site has already been very instrumental in helping us to get started with our small flock of backyard chickens. I thought I better join! We have already combed through the coop pages and designed our very own coop and run that we're extremely excited about (based on many of the posts here), we 'researched' chicken breeds before buying, and are now researching comb styles since our black and white 'Ameraucana' has a very different comb than the pea combs the other two have. We have six lovely chicks that we're enjoying each an every day. Right now we have six chicks of four different breeds (one Gold Star, one Barred Rock, one Black Australorp and three Ameraucanas (I'm assuming they're really Easter Eggers). Our children named them after flowers (Goldenrod - "Goldie", Rose, Blossom, Lily, Magnolia - "Maggie", and Thistle - she was the feisty one of the group). I'm excited to post pictures of our finished coop and run, and ask questions as they come about. I look forward to learning new information on this site to help us on our 'chicken journey'. Thanks to all who may help us with our questions in the future :)

Welcome to Backyard chickens, so glad you joined the flock

I like your enthusiasm with the new flock and their names are cute. The kids must be having fun with them...kids and chicks just seem to naturally go together.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. There are a lot of friendly, helpful members here.

Nice to have you join us!
